To the editor:When is enough enough? The federal bureaucrats have shown their willingness to rewrite history again.
In the recent past the architect of the capitol banned religious references when issuing flag certificates.
This week I was informed of the Department of Veterans Affairs' censoring the script used to describe each fold of the flag at 125 national cemeteries.
This summer I was privileged to hear that recitation at the funeral of a U.S. Marine who made and survived three beach landings in the South Pacific during World War II. President Roosevelt's speech engraved at the World War II memorial declaring war was censored by unelected bureaucrats by removing the words "So help me God."
Today I am informed that the National Park Service has on display a plaque with information concerning the cap on the very top of the Washington Monument.
The National Park Service has decided that information needed to be censored by removing the wording "Laus Deo" (Praise be to God).
Not satisfied with censoring the plaque, the National Park Service is displaying a cast of the cap in such a manner that the words "Laus Deo" cannot be observed.
When the Bush administration is viewed through the window of history, I would think George Bush would want to be remembered as the president who protected the principles that this nation was founded on, not the president who let politically correct bureaucrat's censor American history.
GEORGE EAKER, Cape Girardeau
