Regarding the 2004 governor's race and the potential of a match-up between U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof and Secretary of State Matt Blunt:

If a primary is in the cards, and if news reports are correct that only Blunt is actively lining up the needed financial and grassroots support, the secretary of state would have little problem overcoming a challenge from the congressman.

Blunt is a proven statewide vote getter and was the only Republican elected to state office in the 2000 election. He was also the only Republican to carry St. Louis County, and he did exceptionally well in rural counties.

Because he has run statewide before and has kept a very high profile as secretary of state, Blunt is a known entity to most Missourians and virtually all Republican primary voters. The congressman is a virtual unknown in most parts of the state outside his district.

I am delighted to know that Blunt is considering the governor's race. I have had enough of the current administration and its failed policies. We deserve better in Missouri.
