More than 50 friends, family members and community leaders gathered recently to break ground for Levi's Adventure Trail, an outdoor exhibit for children at Discovery Playhouse.
Levi Collom, a 3-year-old from Benton, Mo., died March 18, 2012, from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. The groundbreaking was on the anniversary of his death. The exhibit is being built to honor him by bringing his love of outdoors to other children. Levi loved to camp and going to the river.
By next year, according to a recent story by Samantha Rinehart, supporters hope to see the completion of the exhibit, which includes a river, a tricycle track and climbing rocks, ropes and logs.
Levi's family has raised $105,000 in donations and $75,000 worth of materials have been given so far, and organizers will continue to approach local clubs and organizations for more donations to help finish the project and maintain it after its opening.
This will be a thrilling exhibit for children, and a fantastic tribute to a boy who will forever be missed.
