This is a rebuttal to the Jeanne Wells letter of Nov. 11. regarding Christianity and homosexuality.

Wells quoted Leviticus 18:22:

"Thou shalt not be with mankind as with womankind."

Leviticus 20:13 takes it a step further:

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with woman, both have committed an abomination: They shall be put to death: Their blood shall be upon them."

As for Wells' interpretation of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, they had many sins but dared to demand of Lot to send out the angels of God saying, "Let them come out that we may know them." All the men of Sodom and Gomorrah made this demand while trying to break down the doors. Logically, not all the men were temple prostitutes. When folks try to break down my door, I would think them mighty inhospitable.

The phrase "that we may know them" is accepted to mean in a carnal manner, which is graphically proven in Judges 19:25. In this story, the men of the city wanted a visiting stranger to "come out that we may know him." They settled for his concubine with disastrous results.

I agree that adultery running rampant is just as bad as homosexuality. But that is the point. Sin is sin. One sin is no greater than the other in the eyes of God.

As Romans 3:23 states:

"All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

God sent his Son into the world that we might receive his marvelous grace and free pardon of sin by acceptance of him. No other name under heaven will justify you or save you. He is the way, the truth and the life. Only by his grace are any of us saved.
