Annan blames Bush for terrorism

To the editor:

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in his Sept. 19 speech obviously is blaming President Bush for the terrorism existing today. Annan's speech did not directly blame President Bush, but it was clear he was blaming the United States. Every time the Islamofascists riot and murder around the world, the events are associated with President Bush's policies.

I did not hear Annan accepting any responsibility for scandals pervasive throughout the United Nations. He failed to mention the "Oil for Food" debacle, which was the largest financial scam in history. Billions were fed to the Hussein regime with the balance distributed to nations and individuals around the world.

The U.N. secretary-general conveniently forgot the St. Louis Post-Dispatch interview where former U.N. ambassador John Danforth stated that with every diplomatic maneuver he knew, he was unable to convince the Security Council to take action against the slaughter in the Darfur region of Sudan. Danforth resigned his position after only six months on the job citing frustration with the United Nations' ability to meaningfully affect the situation. This is just another example of how inept the United Nations has become.
