Little wonder that the "Heroes and Legends" air show drew 2,000 more visitors to the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport than last year's show.
The World War II theme was well-executed and particularly timely considering the recent success of the movie "Pearl Harbor." The re-enactment of that bombing was absolutely spectacular.
Perhaps the best contribution to the event was the perfect weather. A little warm, perhaps, but not unbearable, thanks to low humidity. The sun reflected off the polished wings and propellors and the smiles of applauding viewers.
The only glitch was traffic, but that's to be expected on a road built for a few hundred cars a day instead of a few thousand over two days. And it was well worth the effort to get there.
Although no one can control the weather next year, this year's event certainly proved it is one worth supporting on an annual basis.
