No one likes a rainy parade, least of all the hundreds of parade participants.
There was no sunshine, however, at the Southeast Missouri State University homecoming parade last Saturday. Those in the parade and those who bravely watched from the sidewalks along Broadway were subjected to a steady downpour.
Here's a tip of the hat to all those band members whose uniforms were soaked but who played on. Here's a salute to all the organizations whose floats were drenched. Here's a round of applause for everyone who rode in a convertible during the parade. Here's a big thank you to everyone in the parade who put on a smile in spite of the wet and cold.
There will be other homecoming parades. If next year's weather is sunny and mild, it will be all the more enjoyable because of the memories of this year's soaking.
