In this particular case, there is strong evidence that the teen-ager is a conscientious, church-going, hard-working young man. And the accident, most everyone agrees, was purely accidental. However, it was no accident that he left the scene.

In Missouri, police officers can take away the driver's license of anyone driving while exceeding the state's limit on alcohol blood content. In injury accidents, a law that would yank the license of anyone who leaves the scene would seem equitable.
