The special recognition is particularly meaningful to Wilson's 85-year-old mother, Alice Wilson, and his brother, Ron Wilson, both of whom are Cape Girardeau residents.

The deceased Wilson's heroism as he died trying to save a fellow soldier is a symbol of all the sacrifices made by those who have fallen in combat. It is a matter of pride that one of Cape Girardeau's own is fittingly honored.
