Generous Jerry Kinder of Cape Girardeau and Richard Kinder of Houston deserve another round of thank yous for continuing a program that rewards good teachers for the outstanding work they do.
For the second year, the brothers have funded the Edna C. Kinder Excellence in Teaching Awards.
Unlike most such awards, this one is a $10,000 check for each of the 10 winning teachers. The winners can do with the money as they please.
The Kinders established the award for Cape Girardeau teachers to honor their late mother, a longtime special-education teacher at May Greene Elementary School. The winners are nominated by other educators based on their devotion to the teaching profession.
This year's winners are Sharon Bennett, Nancy Bone, Pam Dumey, Sue Hellwege, Pat Johnson, Bonnie Matzat, Barbara Randolph, Darrick Smith, Ruth Smith and Carla Tilley.
A hearty congratulations to them all.
