John Woodrow "Woody" Godwin, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Cape Girardeau County, son of James Shelton and Daisy Cowan Godwin. He and Viola Crites were married April 12, 1929, at Jackson. She died Jan. 19, 1993.
Godwin worked 44 years at International Shoe and Florsheim Shoe companies in Jackson, Anna, Ill., and had been a supervisor at the Cape Girardeau plant.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He had been a member of the Optimist clubs in Jackson and Cape Girardeau, and had been an activities chairman with Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include three daughters, Patty Masiakiewicz of St. Charles, Colette Staicoff of Cape Girardeau, Carolyn Bindbeutel of Florissant; a brother, Morrell Godwin of Oak Ridge; four sisters, Hazel Williams of Cape Girardeau, Wilma Walker and Mary Belle Headricks of Jackson, Wanda Woodall of St. Charles; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4- 8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with Dr. John E. Owen officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
