MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Woodrow Arthur Helderman, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 4-8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo. Funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Woodrow Arthur Helderman, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 4-8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Revs. John Rice and Jimmy Corbin will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.

Mr. Helderman was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Cape Girardeau County, son of Dennis A. and Zalma Helderman Helderman. He and Loeta Brown were married Dec. 31, 1934. Mrs. Helderman survives and is a resident at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

Other loving survivors include a son, Bobby A. Helderman of Marble Hill; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen L. and Jerry L. Hitt of Millersville, Mo.; four granddaughters, Debbie L. Thurman and husband Chuck of Jackson, Kandi L. Smith and husband Doug of Burfordville, Mo., Bobbie Reagan of Jackson, Beckie L. Maintz and husband Scott of Oak Ridge.

Also surviving are three great-granddaughters, Sammie Thurman, Emilee Smith and Mallorie Maintz; two great-grandsons, Corey Thurman and Bennett Smith; three sisters, Aleta Hedge and Wanda McElreath of Burfordville, and Virginia Askew of Jackson.

A brother, Aaron Helderman, preceded him in death.

Mr. Helderman worked 17 years as an electrician for the city of Jackson and was an active farmer. He had been a member of IBEW Local 1 since 1965, lifetime member of Jackson Trail Riders and TWPHC of Missouri. In 1987, he was voted Horseman of the Year by TWPHC of Missouri.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
