Winfred Caldwell

Winfred Steven Caldwell, 60, of Jackson left his earthly life Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, to join his heavenly father. He passed away in Indianapolis, Ind., as a result of a truck accident.

He was born Sept. 11, 1944, in Southern Pines, N.C., son of Sid Moore and Eleanor Harloe Moore Caldwell. He was later adopted by James Caldwell. He and Lynda King Lorenz were married Jan. 8, 2000, in Jackson.

Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He played semi-pro football three years in New York. He moved to Jackson from Chaffee, Mo., a number of years ago. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson, and a former board member of Teen Challenge.

He was a truck driver for Delta Express in Cape Girardeau. He loved riding motorcycles, playing golf, and he never met a stranger.

Loving survivors include his wife Lynda of the home; three sons, Scott Caldwell of North Carolina, Steven and Sam Caldwell of Chaffee; a daughter, Stephanie Caldwell; a stepdaughter, Alexis Lorenz, and a stepson, Nicholas Henderson, both of Jackson; two brothers, James Caldwell of Knoxville, Tenn., Joel Caldwell of North Carolina; four grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at La Croix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Revs. John Rice and Ron Watts officiating.

McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
