Wilson L. Box, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, March 13, 1998, at his home.

He was born Sept. 20, 1915, in Hagarville, Ark., son of James and Martha Price Box. He and Iva L. Sexton were married Dec. 4, 1937 at Benton. She preceded him in death Sept. 27, 1990.

Box was a heavy equipment operator and construction worker for Burton J. Gerhardt and Nip Kelley Construction. He previously worked a number of years for Anderson Air Activities in Malden until the air base closed in 1960. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1963.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 513 and VFW Post 3838. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.Survivors include a son, Larry Box of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Anna Lee Crawford and husband Darrell of Cape Girardeau, Sharon Taylor and husband Randy of Lees Summit; two sisters, Lucille Sullivan of Sikeston, Ruby Trusty of Zephyrhills, Fla.; three grandchildren, Beverly Compas and husband Tim, Teresa Williams and husband Steve, and Kevin Crawford, all of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Compas; Emily, Andrew and Katie Williams, all of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harold "Sonny" Box; three brothers, and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
