MACOMB, Ill. -- Willis Meek, 81, of Macomb, formerly of Blandinsville, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at Macomb.
He was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Blandinsville, son of Samuel and Mattie Gaumer Meek. He and Helen Keithley were married Dec. 6, 1946, at Blandinsville.
Meek was a World War II Navy veteran with the amphibious forces, serving aboard the USS Lamar in the South Pacific. He lived most of his life in Blandinsville before moving to Macomb in 1993. Meek worked for Standard Oil Co. for many years until his retirement in 1976. He was a former mayor of Blandinsville and was president of the Blandinsville-Hire Fire Protection District and the Blandinsville Park Board. Meek was a member of the Blandinsville United Methodist Church, Blandinsville American Legion, the Macomb Elks Lodge and the Macomb VFW.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Len Meek of Millersville; and a brother, Wayne Meek of Burlington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Blandinsville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Lyren Haney and Hahnshik Min officiating. Burial will be in the Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Blandinsville American Legion and the Macomb VFW.
