William Wesley (Bill) Stover Sr., 82, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape. He was the son of Thomas W. and Bertha Honert Stover and was preceded in death by his parents and sister. Bill is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and his three sons, William Jr. (Lisa), Michael (Veronica) and Greg (Lianna). He also is survived by two grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley) and Jesse, and two great-granddaughters, Sadie and Poppy...

William Wesley (Bill) Stover Sr., 82, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape.

He was the son of Thomas W. and Bertha Honert Stover and was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Bill is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and his three sons, William Jr. (Lisa), Michael (Veronica) and Greg (Lianna). He also is survived by two grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley) and Jesse, and two great-granddaughters, Sadie and Poppy.

Bill pursued a career in electronics prior to joining the military. While there, he volunteered for and became one of the early members of the 10th Special Forces (Green Berets) stationed at Fort Bragg and the European Zone from 1952 to 1955, attaining the rank of sergeant.

After his honorable discharge, he pursued a career in electronics before serving over 20 years in law enforcement, attaining the rank of captain within the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Upon leaving the police force, he returned to his first career interest in electronics.

While busy with his professional life, he was a lifelong student with many hours of university and professional education and served his community within the Board of Ruling Elders and the Deaconate of the First Presbyterian Church of Cape Girardeau, assisted with the Boy Scouts of America, was a member of the Citizens Finance Task Force for the City of Cape Girardeau, was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Southeast Hospital Association.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Nelson officiating.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors by the Missouri Honor Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church or the Missouri Veterans Home.
