JACKSON -- William Arthur Slinkard, 89, of Jackson, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Bond Nursing Care Center in Marble Hill.
He was born May 30, 1906, in Jackson, son of William Mathew and Ella Randol Slinkard. He and Eula N. Walker were married Aug. 17, 1929. She died May 15, 1994.
Slinkard taught two years at the former High Hill Grade School at Neelys Landing, worked at International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau 31 years, and had farmed all his life in the Jackson area.
He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and Jackson Pork Producers.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Slinkard of Marble Hill, Charles Slinkard of Jackson; a brother, Marvin Slinkard of Jackson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and brother.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. S.S. Borum officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
