William P. "Bill" Shields, 82, of Jackson died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Hindsboro, Ill., son of Walter P. and Rose M. Ramsey Shields. He and Pauline Fiedler were married Nov. 12, 1960.
Shields was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force from Nov. 24, 1943, to Nov. 30, 1945.
He then was a manager with Smart and Final Iris Co. in Los Angeles. He retired in 1986 and moved to Granby, Mo., and then to Jackson in 1990.
Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Hortense Biggs of Arcola, Ill., Shirley Jackson of Champaign-Urbana, Ill.; and a brother, Terry Shields of Arcola.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Russell Heights Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Norris officiating. A military honors service will follow.
McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
