William Charles Schweizer, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, June 16, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born on April 20, 1916, at Ferguson, son of Henry and Elizabeth Lott Schweizer. He and Mary Ruth Fields were married in 1942. She died Aug. 15, 1989. He and Katheryn Smith were married Nov. 27, 1991, at Benton.
He was retired from Security Fire Doors, where he worked as an elevator installer in St. Louis for 27 years.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army in Naples, Italy. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, three Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Victory Medal.
He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, the American Legion in Perryville and Masonic Lodge No. 40 at Florissant.
Survivors include his wife and a sister, Marie Bangert of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Masonic service involving St. Mark Lodge No. 93 of Cape Girardeau will be held at 7 p.m. today at the chapel.
Graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. VFW Post 3838 will hold a graveside ceremony.
