William C. "Bill" Schreiner, 85, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Jackson, son of John E. and Bernice Oldham Schreiner. He and Verla M. Gallup were married Oct. 24, 1947, in Jackson. She passed away May 10, 2009...

William C. "Bill" Schreiner, 85, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Jackson, son of John E. and Bernice Oldham Schreiner. He and Verla M. Gallup were married Oct. 24, 1947, in Jackson. She passed away May 10, 2009.

Bill was a longtime member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, and member of Altenthal- Joerns American Legion Post 158. He worked many years at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson, and later retired from Procter & Gamble.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Loving survivors include a son, Steven L. (Donna) Schreiner of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Thomas C. (Kelli) Schreiner of Kimball, Minn., Tracy L. Schreiner of Cape Girardeau; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Jones, Paiten, Taylor and Sidney Schreiner.

In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Schreiner Jr., and two sisters, Nellie M. Smith and Josie R. Witzel.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. American Legion service will be at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to New McKendree Food Pantry.
