PERRYVILLE -- William K. Lakenan, 83, of Perryville, died Wednesday, July 31, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1908, at Perryville, son of William A. and Mary M. Kinnison Lakenan. He and Ruby E. Nelson were married April 29, 1929...

PERRYVILLE -- William K. Lakenan, 83, of Perryville, died Wednesday, July 31, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Feb. 17, 1908, at Perryville, son of William A. and Mary M. Kinnison Lakenan. He and Ruby E. Nelson were married April 29, 1929.

Lakenan was a 1925 graduate of Perryville High School, and attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He organized the Lakenan Insurance Agency in 1937 and remained active until he became ill.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gloria Williamson of Jackson, Peggy Davis of Perryville; a son, William Lakenan Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Lakenan was a lifelong member of Perryville Presbyterian Church, serving as a ruling elder 1944-82, and clerk of session 1952-73. He was a member of Bank of Perryville Board of Directors, and had served as chairman and president of the board.

He was president of the Independent Insurance Association of Missouri in 1959. He was chairman of Perry County Red Cross, and served on the board of Perryville School District 32 many years.

Lakenan was a charter member of Perryville Development Corp. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Perry County Democratic Party, Masonic Lodge at St. Marys, and Moolah Temple. He was active in the Lions Club here, and Boys Scouts of America including the Perryville chapter and Southeast Missouri Council. He was president of Home Cemetery board.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jim Duncan will officiate, with burial in Home Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday, and util 1 p.m. Sunday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.
