ADVANCE -- William John Halstead Sr., 71, of Advance died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston.
He was born Oct. 22, 1925, at Advance, son of Ward and Anna Belle Pike Halstead.
He retired from Norfolk Western Railroad as a sign maintainer in Illinois after 33 years of service. He served in the Army during World War II.
He married Harriet L. Lange on July 31, 1949, at Edwardsville, Ill. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, William J. Halstead Jr. of Norfolk, Neb., and James Ward Halstead of Advance; a brother, Kenneth Pike Halstead of Atlanta; a sister, Betty Lucas of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park at Advance.
