Funeral service for William J. Whistler Jr., 105 S. Ellis, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. The Rev. James Cauglan will officiate. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

Whistler, 53, died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Dec. 19, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, son of William John and Lillian Mary Bert Whistler Sr.

Whistler was a lab technician at Ste. Genevieve Memorial Hospital and co-owner of Heartland Laboratory Inc. in Chaffee. He moved to Cape Girardeau five years ago from Chaffee.

He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ and president of the church council; member of Clinical Laboratory Management Association, International Society for Clinical Laboratory Technology and American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.

Survivors include a son, James Whistler of Kansas City; four daughters, Angela Schaefer of Scott City, Nanette Charleston, Annette Whistler and Michelle Whistler of Chaffee; two brothers, Stephen Whistler of Chaffee, Robert Whistler of Perryville; a sister, Mary Welker of Perryville, and three grandchildren.
