William "Bud" Holder, 78, of Scott City died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 15, 1934, in Illmo to Woodrow and Martha Laws Holder. He married Marian "Toots" Welter on May 30, 1953, in New Hamburg, Mo.
Bud retired from Western Electric after 30 years of service. He also drove a school bus for the Scott City School District and was park superintendent for the Scott City Parks Department.
Bud was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City; Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City where he was a past Grand Knight; and Fourth Degree of St. Joseph Assembly 2283 in Scott City.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; a son, Danny (Teresa) Holder of Scott City; a daughter Kathy (Jerry) Birlew of Cedar Hill, Mo.; grandchildren, Cory (Jennifer) Brant of House Springs, Mo., Jason (Jennifer) Holder and Courtney Holder, all of Scott City; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Brant, Raegan and Reese Holder; stepgrandsons Nick and Zack Birlew of St. Louis; and a great-stepgrandson, Daemion Birlew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hovis.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus service at 7:15 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
