William Hammett

GREENVILLE, Mo. -- William C. "Wild Bill" Hammett, 71, of Greenville passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1941, in Wittenberg, Mo., to the late Sanford S. and Nancy H. Rhoades Hammett-McKinney.

William served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Greenville Masonic Lodge No. 107, president of the Wayne County Eagles for two years and retired as an executive from Schnucks Markets Inc. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy (Larry) Allen of Greenville, Kimberly Parrott of Greenville and Kelly (Scott) Presson of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Joseph McKinney of St. Louis; two sisters, Pat Hoskins of Dittmer, Mo., and Lee Lineberry of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Thomas Teyssier, Mark A. Presson, Brandon Presson, Madison Presson, Amy Wilhite, Angie Duncan, Chasity Emerson and Charity Allen; and a great-grandchild, Olivia Presson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Hammett; two brothers, Jerry and Roger Hammett; and two sisters, Betty LaRue and Erma Slack.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rodger Rice officiating.

Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
