William H. Haynes, 87, of Cape Girardeau died at Ratliff Care Center Saturday, March 16, 1996.

He was born Oct. 29, 1908, at Woodville, Miss., son of Nathan and Olivia Minor Haynes.

He married Malinda L. Ward Dec. 25, 1939, at Blytheville, Ark. She survives.

He was a construction worker for a number of construction companies throughout Southeast Missouri. He was a member of Local Union 282 of Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was 32nd-degree Mason, St. Matthews Grand Lodge A.M. & F.M., a member of Eastern Star, Rock of Ages Chapter 5.

Survivors include a son, Louis Haynes of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, LuWanda Bryant, Shirley J. Stafford and Sharon H. Sides, all of Cape Girardeau, Gladys B. Johnson of St. Louis and Gretchen A. Woods of Grinnell, Iowa.; two brothers, Vaughn Haynes of New Orleans and Lilbert Haynes of Baton Rouge, La.; four sisters, Lula Haynes, Anita Fields and Esther Fields, all of New Orleans, and Cammeal Price of Zachary, La.; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, brother and sister.

Service will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church Thursday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
