William Edward Gaines, 83, of Farmington, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Park Hills Medical Center at Park Hills, Mo. He was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Clawson, Mich., the son of Lon and Minnie Graham Gaines. He married Zola Osburn on April 14, 1946. She died Jan. 5, 1976. He married Grace James on April 24, 1976. She died Dec. 19, 1995...

William Edward Gaines, 83, of Farmington, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Park Hills Medical Center at Park Hills, Mo.

He was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Clawson, Mich., the son of Lon and Minnie Graham Gaines. He married Zola Osburn on April 14, 1946. She died Jan. 5, 1976. He married Grace James on April 24, 1976. She died Dec. 19, 1995.

He retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1980. He was a member of VFW Post 5896 of Farmington and of the Grand Lodge AF&AM 613 in Wellston, Mo. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany and France during World War II.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Mae Wood; and a stepbrother, Kelly W. Baker.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Mo. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.

Burial will be at Baker Cemetery in Marble Hill.
