William E. Bennett Sr. died July 20, 1999 at his home in Charleston, S.C. The son of Connie and Jewell Bennett, he was born on Dec. 22, 1928, at Conway, Ark.

Mr. Bennett was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a professional truck driver for many years before his retirement. He was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. Bennett is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Stephanie Bennett Jr. of Chaffee; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Jim Green of Cape Girardeau, Aleshia and Francis Bader of Scott City and Tonyua and Jon Townsend of Chaffee; two brothers, Charlie Bennett of Greenwood, S.C. and Harold Bennett of Summerton, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Jerry Laxton, Brittney and Veronica Bennett, Jeremy and Natalie Townsend, all of Chaffee, Jesse Bader of Scott City and Jamie Halter of Colt, Ark.; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kylea Laxton of Chaffee. He was preceded in death by one brother, one grandson and one great-grandson. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
