ST. LOUIS -- William Anthony Culkin Sr., 65, of St. Louis, formerly of Thebes, Ill., passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
William was born June 8, 1948, at Thebes, son of the late Robert William Culkin and Ora Mae Bledsoe Culkin.
William was a riverboat captain with Southern Towing Company and served as chief with the United States Navy Reserves.
William was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph Patrick Culkin; a brother, Charles Culkin; and his stepfather, Clifford Carl "Bud" Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Berry) Culkin of St. Louis; a son, William Anthony Culkin Jr. of St. Louis; two brothers, Robert "Robbie" Culkin of Olive Branch, Ill., and Clyde Culkin of Texas; five sisters, Agnes Ghiglione of Mount Zion, Ill., Sarah Dunn of Collinsville, Ill., Claire DeLashmutt of Jonesboro, Ill., Brenda Calvert of Olive Branch, Ill., and Susie Ozment of Kansas City, Mo.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with James Ghiglione officiating.
Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill., with full military honors given by the Illinois National Guard and area veterans.
