CAIRO, Ill. -- William A. Bauerle, 94, of Cairo died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1905, at Henderson, Ky., son of Henry and Effie Mae Decker Bauerle. Bauerle was an insurance agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. before his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, fourth degree Cairo Knights of Columbus Council 1027, Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and Cairo VFW Post 2649...

CAIRO, Ill. -- William A. Bauerle, 94, of Cairo died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born July 4, 1905, at Henderson, Ky., son of Henry and Effie Mae Decker Bauerle.

Bauerle was an insurance agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. before his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, fourth degree Cairo Knights of Columbus Council 1027, Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and Cairo VFW Post 2649.

He served on Gen. Dwight Eisenhower's staff at the Supreme Headquarters during World War II. He was also an accomplished saxophone player and played in area bands.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Bauerle of Cairo; a daughter, Kay Clark of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Richard Bauerle of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Delores Miskimen of Dallas, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel followed by Knights of Columbus prayers at 8.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jerome Fortenberry will officiate with burial in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge.
