William Allison

HAZEL GREEN, Ala. -- William "Bill" Lawson Allison, 84, of Hazel Green, Ala., died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004.

He was born Aug. 30, 1920.

He was a Navy submariner and veteran of World War II. He graduated from Lambuth College in Jackson, Tenn. He also received degrees from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., and the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Allison was school administrator and teacher in Caruthersville, Mo., and later moved to Cape Girardeau and became assistant superintendent of schools. He then served as professor of psychology at Southeast Missouri State University for 15 years. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Allison of Hazel Green; a daughter, Ann Tucker and her husband, Scott, of Huntsville; a sister, Betty Jean Neeper of Homeland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Derek, Emily, Abigail and Gregory Tucker.

A memorial service was held Sunday at Valley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dorothy Scott officiating.

Laughlin Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
