Wilfred Werner

Wilfred N. Werner, 70, of Jackson, formerly of Altenburg, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at his home.

He was born April 14, 1935, in Tilsit, son of the late Otto F. and Minnie Baer Werner. He and Kathryn "Katie" Petzoldt were married Aug. 24, 1957, in Altenburg.

Wilfred was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on March 20, 1957. He was a dairy farmer for 30 years, worked for East Perry Lumber Company and retired from SEMO Automotive Warehouse in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member and Elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

Loving survivors include his wife of 48 years, Katie, of Jackson; a daughter, Laurie Hill, husband Donald, sons Bradley and Joshua Hill, all of Jackson; a son, Timothy Werner, wife Jody of Jackson, and daughters, Amy Ratledge, husband Tom, of Benton, and Angela Comegys of St. Louis; and seven great-stepgrandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ervin Werner and wife Darlene of Jackson, Otto Werner Jr., and wife Bonnie of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and a sister, Elvira Engert and husband Edward of Oak Ridge.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Werner, on Sept. 17, 2005; four brothers and one sister.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and Monday after 9:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Keith Weise officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Building Fund or General Fund of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg, or Southeast Hospice.
