CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Wilford J. "Bill" Murphy, 68 years old, of 1530 Whitener, died Saturday, March 9, 1991 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1922 in Valparaiso, Ind., the son of Wilford B. and Dorothy Riddle Murphy.
He worked for Florsheim Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau from 1946 until his retirement in 1988. He was superintendent of the plant at the time of his retirement.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
On Jan. 4, 1974, he married Kay Kellett, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are his mother, Dorothy Murphy of Midland, Mich.; one son, Steve Murphy, Cape Girardeau; two stepsons, Michael Koontz, St. Louis, and Thomas Koontz, Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Janet Esicar, Cape Girardeau; one stepdaughter, Julie Roll, Jackson; one sister, Joann Ingebrigtson, Midland, Mich.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Neil Stein officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
