ELCO, Ill. -- Wilburn Lee Dickerson, 77, of Elco, Ill., died Saturday, May 11, 1996, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Marion, Ill.
He was born Sept. 11, 1918, at Jonesboro, Ill., son of Grover A. Dickerson Sr. and Sophia Shelton Dickerson. He and May "Sherry" Lessar were married.
Dickerson was a member of the Elco Baptist Church and a retired vocational teacher at the Cairo Adult Education Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Jackson County, Ill.
Survivors include his wife; a son, the Rev. Kenneth Dickerson of Granite City, Ill., four daughters, Barbara Lessar of Dwight, Ill., and Mary Durham, Vicki Koen and Sharon Sronce, all of Elco, Ill.; four brothers, James Dickerson of Jonesboro, Harold Dickerson of Groves, Texas, Grover A. Dickerson Jr. of Harrisburg, Ill., and Alfred Dickerson of Hurst, Ill.; two sisters, Lilly Betts of Tamms, Ill., and Betty Fliris of Lowell, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a step-great-granddaughter.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Heath Sr. officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola, Ill. Military honors will be given by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna.
