Wilbur Calvin
CAIRO, Ill. -- Wilbur Calvin, 90, of Cairo died Friday afternoon, December 5, 2008, at Union County Hospital in Anna, Ill.
Calvin was born March 19, 1918, in Mound City, Ill., son of Harve A. and Elizabth A. McDaniel Calvin. He was married to Eunice P. Hafford.
Calvin was a member of the First Christian Church of Cairo and was a member and past worshipful master of Cairo AF&AM Lodge 237, the KIM Shrine Club of Cairo and the Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, Ill.
Calvin was a member of the First Christian Worship Church of Cairo and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Local 184 in Paducah, Ky., where he was a past assistant business agent and financial secretary.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Cairo VFW Post 2649. He was a employed as a pipe fitter before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Hafford Calvin of Cape Girardeau; a son, W. Leon Calvin of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Rose Mary Wood of Pekin, Ill.; a brother, Joel D. Calvin of Madison, Ind.; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Masonic funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday by Cairo AF&AM Lodge 237.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Pigg officiating. Internment will follow in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, Ill., with military honors by the Pulaski County Memorial VFW Post 8891 of Mounds, Ill., VFW Post 2649 of Cairo and the Louis Phares American Legion Post 178 of Villa Ridge, Ill.
