ADVANCE, Mo. -- Wilbern B. "Mike" Hornbuckle, 88, of Advance died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the home of a daughter. He was born March 21, 1921, in Manila, Ark., son of Loyed and Elsie Brooks Hornbuckle. He and Sadie Claudine "Polly" Warren were married on April 17, 1982. She died July 29, 2004...

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Wilbern B. "Mike" Hornbuckle, 88, of Advance died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the home of a daughter.

He was born March 21, 1921, in Manila, Ark., son of Loyed and Elsie Brooks Hornbuckle. He and Sadie Claudine "Polly" Warren were married on April 17, 1982. She died July 29, 2004.

Mr. Hornbuckle worked as a farmer and an overhead crane operator for Stupp Brothers in St. Louis. He attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Advance.

He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas J.D. Jake Hornbuckle of Albany, Ga.; Larry W. Hornbuckle of Lowndes, Mo., Teddy P. Hornbuckle of Zalma, Mo., Michael Hornbuckle of Delta; six daughters, Betty J. Chandler of St. Louis; Eva Cantrell of Nashville, Tenn., Phyllis June Beal of Zalma, Billie S. Gladwell of Sikeston, Mo., Ruth E. Myers of Fruitland, Peggy P. VanderMierden of Glenallen, Mo.; a brother, Pete Hornbuckle of Glenallen; a sister, Gracie Melton of Dexter, Mo.; 29 grandchildren; and 59 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, two brothers, five sisters and a grandson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Gerald Clark officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Cemetery in Advance, with full military honors provided by Missouri Honors Team.
