JACKSON -- Wayne C. Voorhes, age 62, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Eldercare Nursing Home in Marble Hill. Friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 9-11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Church followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate.
Mr. Voorhes was born Nov. 9, 1937, at Cape Girardeau, son of Curtis and Elsie (Brune) Voorhes. He married Mary Phipps on June 11, 1960, at Scott City and she survives. Also surviving are: a son, Wayne P. Voorhes and daughter-in-law Jennifer of Jackson; a brother, Don Voorhes of Jackson; a sister, Mary McGruder of Jackson; three grandchildren, Alex, Steven and Ashley Voorhes of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and his parents.
Mr. Voorhes was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, having recently transferred his membership from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He owned and operated with his brother and father the Voorhes Greenhouse in Jackson until 1986.
