MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Wayne Francis Schmitt, 71, of Marble Hill passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born to Edward E. and Earlene V. Crows Schmitt on Oct. 4, 1948. He and Betty J. Garland were united in marriage Nov. 2, 1985, and she passed away Feb. 18, 1994...

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Wayne Francis Schmitt, 71, of Marble Hill passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born to Edward E. and Earlene V. Crows Schmitt on Oct. 4, 1948. He and Betty J. Garland were united in marriage Nov. 2, 1985, and she passed away Feb. 18, 1994.

Wayne served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and attended Patton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his brother, Herman Schmitt of Dinger, West Virginia; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Faye) and Bill (Gail) Garland of Marble Hill; sisters-in-law, Velda (Larry) Doggett of Sedgewickville, Missouri, and Judy (Ken) Liley of Marble Hill; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Schmitt; parents; and brother, Elmer Schmitt.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Liley Funeral Home in Patton, Missouri.

Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Roger Cary and Jeff Garland officiating. Burial will be in Hurricane Fork Cemetery near Marble Hill, with full military rites provided by Missouri Military Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Missouri Veterans Home.
