DEXTER, Mo. -- Wayne Jackson, son of the late George Thomas and Mattie Posiey Jackson, was born Oct. 19, 1933, in New Madrid, Missouri, and departed this life Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at his home in Dexter at the age of 84. DEXTER, Mo. -- Wayne Jackson, son of the late George Thomas and Mattie Posiey Jackson, was born Oct. 19, 1933, in New Madrid, Missouri, and departed this life Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at his home in Dexter at the age of 84.

Wayne was a former auto-parts salesman. He was retired from the Division of Employment Security after 30 years of service.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Essex.

He played on the Morehouse (Missouri) High School basketball team and was a 45-year member of the Elks Lodge, where he served as exalted ruler for three terms and was the district deputy from 1990-1991.

He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Wyrick on May 30, 1952, in Morehouse. She preceded him in death March 18, 2016.

He is survived by two sons, Mark (Susan) Jackson of Cape Girardeau and Gary (Shelia) Jackson of Dexter; two sisters, Iva (Bill) Gipford and Nina Jackson; seven grandchildren, Brandi Reyna, Becky Moore, Travis Jackson, Corey Jackson, Ashlee Jackson, Nichole Clippard and Dwaun Thiele; and 13 great-grandchildren, Daniel Petty, Skylar Jackson, Adrianna Jackson, Hilary Moore, Kaitlynn Moore, Anasten Jackson, William Jackson, Nora Jackson, Brendin Thiele, Adrian Thiele and Addison, Kate and John Clippard.

Besides his parents and his wife, Jo Ann Jackson, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Roosevelt, William "Jack," Harvey, Jessie, Claude and Donald Jackson; by a sister, Mary Tate, and an infant sister.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tim Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in Dexter.
