CREAL SPRINGS, Ill. -- Wayne Allen Braswell, 86, of Creal Springs passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at Carbondale (Illinois) Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 28, 1932, in Mounds City, Illinois, to the late Lewis Wesley and Goldie Mae Dalton Braswell. Wayne married Lillie Stonecipher on Sept. 19, 1960, in Springfield, Illinois, and she preceded him in death Oct. 31, 2016.
He was a railroad conductor on the Chicago Metro Train system and a veteran of Korea, serving in the Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Creal Springs and a member of the Stonefort Masonic Lodge.
Wayne is survived by two children, Lela (Richard) Quaid and Wesley (Kelly) Braswell; and five grandchildren, Kyle and Matthew Quaid, Cole and Sean Braswell and Mary Catherine.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Lillie Braswell; and a brother, Lewis Donald Braswell.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home in Creal Springs. Masonic Rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home by the Vienna (Illinois) Masonic Lodge.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ted Conners officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Southern Illinois Honor Flight or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
