Wanda Lou Reed, 86, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2024, in peace within her and family by her side.

"Where a beautiful soul has been, beautiful memories and love will always remain."

She was born Jan. 8, 1938, daughter of Leo Joseph and Mamie Aline Sander LeDure of Commerce. She lived most of her life in Commerce, and she was a cook on the towboat Ginny Stone, retiring after 25 years. Wanda's gumbo and Mississippi mud cake were winners "with the crew", but with her daughters, it was her chicken and dumplings. The chickens even agreed!

Wanda also worked at Southeast Hospital in food service. She was proud of everything she was able to provide for herself and her daughters and, most of all, she loved what she did. In the good old days, she enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, word searches, cooking and collecting cookbooks. She was a member of the Commerce Better Community Club for several years,

Survivors include four daughters, Deb (Mark) Gayer of Fenton, Brenda (Mark) Hamm of Commerce, and Yvonne Reed and Dee (Tim) Fitzgerald, both of Cape Girardeau; grandson, Matt (Cristin) Gayer of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Edwin (Lois) LeDure and Roy LeDure; and sisters-in-law, Pat and Wilma LeDure, all of Commerce; many nieces, nephews, cousins and more.
