CAIRO, Ill. -- Walter W. Jones, 76, of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Cairo, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1993, at Hemet Valley Hospital in Hemet.

He was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Cairo, Ill., son of Clyde and Mable Ragsdale Jones.

His wife, Mable LaVerne Jones, died in 1989.

Jones was a retired gas and electrical engineer for the Mt. Carmel, Ill., Public Utility Company.

He was a member of the Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church in Cairo, Ill., the Moose Lodge in Mt. Carmel, Ill., and the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Rice of West Hill, Calif.; a son, Ron Jones of Van Nuys, Calif.; a sister, Mary Louise Tegethoff of Nashville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Friends may call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Barkett Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, graveside at the Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, Ill., with the Rev. Kenneth Provines officiating.

Burial will follow.
