STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Walter Preston Sparks, 76, of Ste. Genevieve, formerly of Scott City, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at his home.
He was born Sept. 13, 1940, in Pennsville, New Jersey, to Albert Edward and Elizabeth Alberta Vausch Sparks. He married Joy Fisher on May 1, 1964.
He was a truck driver for J.B. Hunt. He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by three sons, Anthony (Taryn) Sparks and Troy Sparks, both of Scott City, and Jason (Lori) Sparks of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren, Spenser, Dylan, Matthew, Elizabeth, Jason Jr., Brett and Blayde; two brothers, Warren Sparks and Wayne Sparks, both of Lakeworth, Florida; and four sisters, Alberta Wilson, Aggie Sparks and Deloris Geary, all of Pennsville, and Shirley Clark of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert Sparks; a grandchild, Blade; and a great-grandchild, Eden.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Ropp officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City, with full military honors.
