ANNA, Ill. -- Walter Fred Sitter, 81, of Anna died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Ill.
He was born April 7, 1923, at Union County, Ill., son of Fred and Nellie Brown Sitter. He and Helen Marie Martin were married Sept. 7, 1944.
He and his wife owned and operated Union County Co. Sporting Goods in Anna from 1958 to 1987. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anna.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Walter Stanley Sitter of Hot Springs, Ark., Dennis Sitter of Cobden, Ill.; a daughter, Rose Marie Walker of Anna; two sisters, Jewell Hale of New Palestine, Ind., Afton Stephens of Sun Valley, Idaho; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tim Sadler officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
