Walter Seibel

Walter Ottomar Seibel, 99, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Feb. 21, 1909, in Frohna, Mo., son of Frederick and Maria Oberndorfer Seibel. He and Mildred Black Seibel were married Aug. 24, 1941, in Perryville, Mo. She died Aug. 18, 1979.

Seibel was a graduate of Concordia Junior College in River Forest, Ill., Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Missouri. He taught at schools in Detroit, Perryville, St. Charles and Trinity Lutheran in Cape Girardeau. At Trinity he served as principal and teacher 21 years, and was designated principal emeritus.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, former elder, and served on the church board for parish education and on the district board of directors. He served as chairman of the district teachers conference and district principals conference.

He was a field director with the American Red Cross in St. Louis during World War II.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lewis of Simpsonville, S.C., Barbara Pierce Bearden of Imperial, Mo.; a son, Dale Seibel of Atlanta; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, six brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.
