Funeral service for Walter Schlichting of Cape Girardeau will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Revs. Doyle W. Randol and William E. Fish will officiate. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery at McClure, Ill., with graveside rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna, Ill.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Schlichting, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 1996, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1906, at Frohna, son of Karl and Marie Mungles Schlichting. He and Gladys Marie Burchyett were married Nov. 10, 1928, in Murphysboro, Ill.
Schlichting was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from October 1945 to December 1961. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Bonnie Fish of Chaffee; a brother, Melvin Schlichting of Cobden, Ill.; two sisters, Flora Kohler of Anna, Nelda Petrie of Fort Collins, Colo.; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.
