Walter "Dusty" Rhodes, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Williamsville, Mo., to Walter Lacey and Mary Ellen Cook Rhodes. He and Alice Virginia Elliott were married March 27, 1948, in Jennings, Mo.

Walter was a longtime civil servant with the defense department, and accomplished watchmaker in St. Louis many years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Alice of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Susan Kelley of Fort Collins, Colo., Dusty Hayden of Wappapello, Mo.; a sister, Mary Ellis of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Erin Fulton and Rhodes Kelley; and three great-grandchildren.

His body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine.
