DEXTER -- Walter Landers, 98, of Dexter, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1994, at Dexter Nursing Center. He was born June 10, 1896, in Lake County, Tenn. He and Thelma Bishop were married Aug. 26, 1915, in Lafe, Ark. She died March 25, 1965. Landers had lived in Dexter since 1922. He was a retired barber, and member of First Baptist Church...

DEXTER -- Walter Landers, 98, of Dexter, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1994, at Dexter Nursing Center.

He was born June 10, 1896, in Lake County, Tenn. He and Thelma Bishop were married Aug. 26, 1915, in Lafe, Ark. She died March 25, 1965.

Landers had lived in Dexter since 1922. He was a retired barber, and member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Burnell "Tony" Landers of Independence, Rev. Allen Landers of Columbus, Miss.; two daughters, Shirley Thompson of Millstadt, Ill., Martha Landers of Dexter; 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five sons and a grandson.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter after 5 p.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Duke Tolbert officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery at Charleston.
