LEOPOLD -- Walter J. Jansen, 76, of Leopold died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in the Emergency Room at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 8, 1920, at Glennon, son of Gerhard L. and Anna DeBrock Jansen. He and Mary Anna Hinkebein were married Oct. 8, 1946.
Jansen was a farmer. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Leopold-Glennon Mutual Aid Society, and 3rd Degree member of St. Isidore Knights of Columbus Council 5898.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Alphonse Jansen of Advance, Andrew Jansen of DeSoto, Ambrose, Arnold and Anthony Jansen, all of Leopold; four daughters, Christina Diebold of Scott City, Celestine Chierek of Festus, Cecilia Deck and Catherine Nenninger of Leopold; a brother, Luke Jansen of Leopold; two sisters, Bertha Beussink and Gertrude Vandeven of Leopold; 25 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, five brothers, and two sisters.
Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill after 4 p.m. today. Parish prayers and KC rosary will be at 7:30.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Church, with the Rev. Bill Huggins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
