SIKESTON -- Walter Griffen, 83, of Sikeston, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 1991 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

He was born Oct. 14, 1907 in Centerville, Miss., to the late Lucy Coach Griffen and Dennis Griffen.

A resident of Sikeston since 1923, he was a deacon at the West End Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston.

On Dec. 24, 1938, he married Mattie Lee Jones. She proceeded him in death on Nov. 21, 1978.

Survivors include two daughters, Viola Griffen Blow of Sikeston and Maxine Hollins Swope of Gary, Ind.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the West End Baptist Church in Sikeston. Service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald Williams officiating.

Burial will be in the Smith West End Court Cemetery at Sikeston.
